Daniel Boyd: 'Thar She Blows' Colouring book

Daniel Boyd
Thar She Blows
2026
Edition of 250

Daniel Boyd: Thar She Blows is a colouring book commissioned by Artspace. Drawing on imagery from Boyd’s painting archive and other historical sources, the book extends his practice of appropriating and reworking images from Australia’s colonial history. Figures, objects and scenes of colonial expansion are unsettled and recast, inviting us to look again at the histories they tell. Designed for both colouring and collecting, the saddle-sewn A4 book transforms this source material into a playful, subversive format.

Featuring an essay by Artspace Executive Director Victor Wang, Boyd’s colouring book invites conversation—and participation—while exposing how visual culture participates in the production of historical consciousness.
